Crested Butte, rises high (12,162 ft) above the small resort town and at daybreak the peak shines like a giant beacon.  It’s thirty miles from the nearest traffic light or franchise restaurant and you couldn’t care less.  The best thing about the town of Crested Butte is the absolutely fantastic restaurants.  The bad thing about Crested Butte is that we will run out of time before we run out of great restaurants. Have a memorable vacation and dine with us at the Timberline for with great steaks and elk medallions, Harry’s for buffalo steaks, fantastic Italian cuisine at the Bacchanale, wonderful French food at Le Bosquet, down home cooking served family style at Slogar’s, the local’s favorite pizza place is the Secret Stash; this is just a partial list in town..it goes on and on…and then the ones in the village….too many restaurants, too few days.

Get ready for a fun week because the Butte has something for everyone with lots of green, blue, black and extreme terrain runs.  There’s a lot of skiing here because there is hardly a wait at any of the lifts and the snow cats groom almost every green and blue run every night.  When you’re ready, there’s restaurants, coffee shops and an ice bar for libations.  The ‘ice bar’ & restaurant is located at the base of the Twister Lift, and yes, the bar is actually made out of ice.

The Grand Lodge is located on Mountaineer Square adjacent to the transit center where shuttle buses run every 15 minutes to town.  Mountaineer Square is part of the resort’s $200 million expansion and will be newly opened in 2008.  The Grand Lodge is across the street from village gift shops, restaurants, liquor stores and ski rental shops.

We fly into Montrose, which is a   hour bus ride to the resort.  We will make a short stop for supplies and make the most of the remainder of the day settling in and getting ready for a week of skiing.
